Q How do I apply for my Provisional LicenceBack to top

A You can apply for your Provisional Licence 3 months prior to your 17th birthday. Obtain a form from the Post Office and follow the instructions on the form

Q Does AL Drive School of Motoring do intensive Driving courses?Back to top

A No. These courses have a high failure rate and I personally feel that few people can cope with a full day behind the wheel of a car without losing concentration.

Q Are test routes covered during lessons?Back to top

A Once the pupil has attained the relevant level of experience then their lessons take place in the area surrounding the test centre that they choose to sit their test. Since test routes are chosen by the examiners on the day, it's not possible to replicate the route the examiner will take exactly, however, if your instructor has advised you to sit your test you will be confident enough to drive whereever the examiner takes you.

How many lessons will I need to pass my driving test?Back to top

A This is a difficult question to answer and can depend on any number of factors, such as ability and hard work on your part. It's important to listen to your instructor and have regular lessons. Be assured that as soon as your instructor thinks you're ready for your test, he will ask you to apply for your test.

Q How many manoeuvres are in the driving test?Back to top

A 2 manoeovres are covered in your driving test which can be made up of a 'turn in the road', 'left reverse', 'bay parking' or 'reverse park'.

Q How many faults can I make before I fail my driving test?Back to top

A A maximum of 15 minor faults and no serious or dangerous faults. A serious or dangerous fault will result in you failing your test, however, by the time you sit your test, neither of these will happen as your confidence will have grown and your instructor will be confident in your ability.

Q Can I fail my driving test for stalling the car?Back to top

A Not normally, unless when you stall the car it results in danger to other road users.

Q How much does the practical Driving Test cost?Back to top

A £56.50 midweek and £67.00 for a weekend test. Don't forget that you will also have the cost of any lesson that you have prior to your test and the cost of using your instructor's car during your test.

Q How much does the Theory Test cost?Back to top

A £30.00

Q What do I need to score to pass the Theory Test?Back to top

A A minimum of 44 out of 50, study as much as you can so that you have a clear understanding of what you need. Your Instructor will advise you of what to expect in the Hazard Perception test, in terms of identifying hazards and developing hazards.

Q When do I have to sit my practical Driving Test after passing my Theory Test?Back to top

A 2 years, regular driving instruction will make sure that you pass well within the 2 year time limit.

Q What documentation do I need on the day of my Practical Driving Test?Back to top

A You need to take your Driving Licence, Theory Pass Certificate and appointment letter (or copy of the email confirmation) from the D.S.A. If you have an old style licence (without a photograph), you must also take official photographic identification (i.e. a passport)

Q How long does it take for my Practical test date to come through?Back to top

A This very much depends on how busy the test centre is. However, on average, it takes 4 weeks from the date you book it. Your instructor will advise you when you're ready to apply for your test.
